The CEP emphasizes curricular programs as the most effective method to provide students with the benefits of a chess education. The CEP works closely with schools to ensure that curricular programs fall within their educational philosophies.
Another aspect of chess instruction offered by the CEP is the Extended-Day Program. Before and after school classes are contrasted with the curricular program by a less intense method of learning chess.
Mr. Barry Noble, International Expert Chess Therapist since 1971, specializing in using chess as a therapeutic tool for the Physically Challenged. By entering into Chess Educational Therapy Program, the individual meets an intellectual challenge, providing to himself and others that although limited, he can compete on a equal level of communication. Research shows that people with developmental limitations need meaningful social and intellectual activity. Chess has the potential of reaching into their mind. WHO MAY APPLY? Individuals with diagnoses such as Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Osteogenesis Imperfecta, Post Polio, Familial Dysautonomia, stroke, amputations, spinal cord, head injury, and other physical limitations that prevent traditional normal participation in an athletic environment. To prevent memory lost (Alzheimer) it is highly recommended to keep reading, writing or playing Chess. The philosophy behind the Senior Chess Education Program is to help seniors help themselves for the complexities of life through the discipline of chess. Private tutoring available upon request.
The CEP believes in the value of community participation in the education of their children. Exhibitions and lectures by chess masters are sponsored to encourage parental involvement in their students activities throughout the Hallandale, FL area.
The CEP is actively developing Continuing Education Units, courses and seminars at Teacher Development Centers and Universities to train certified teachers in the fundamentals of chess and in the art of teaching chess to children.
Tournaments: Tournament activity is supported by the CEP because it helps to encourage students to test themselves against players of all ages. Tournaments are scheduled on a regular basis to provide students with the opportunities to challenge and improve themselves.
