Chess is an art, a science and a sport. The beginner or advanced student learns to develop and sharpen existing skills. Chess enhances memory, concentration, orientation and the ability to conceptualize. Engage in the number two sport in the world. ("College Gifted Programs" - New Jersey)
Mission
The CEP promotes the study of chess as an educational tool in curricular classes and enrichment programs for children, youth and adults.
The CEP also sponsors tournaments for those students who are attracted to the competitive aspect of chess in order to spur them to higher levels of intellectual achievements.
Goals
The measurable goals of the Project are increased achievement in math, reading, and science as well as a marked increase in concentration, self-esteem, and self-control. The CEP provides students a modern approach to the Royal Game.
Benefits
Students will expand their minds while having great fun learning to play chess with more confidence, and accomplishing many long range goals such as:
- Developing analytical and decision making skills
- Engaging in a in-depth chess research, thereby helping them to build self confidence in their ability to conduct successful academic research.
